How NetOS® improves air quality
The UK city of Bristol has an air-quality problem with as many as five deaths a week due to air pollution and the associated health problems.
Children are particularly vulnerable, as some of Bristol’s schools are very close to busy roads and motorways.
The challenge facing the city is how to monitor air-quality to enable decisive actions to limit the impact of pollution?
Without connectivity, the sensor can’t collect and share data in real-time.
The solution: NetOS Rapide™
NetOS Rapide™ was deployed by Bristol City Council at a school close to a major road and used to support an IoT air-quality sensor network to provide real-time data on air pollution. The network was installed in under an hour with a series of fixed and wireless IoT sensors around the school and playground.
The City Council and Public Health teams can see in real-time the amount of pollution in and around the school which can enable them to make evidence-based decisions such as whether to restrict the use of the playground or even send children home.
Once the data and patterns have been established the system can be relocated to another location or replicated.
In the future, NetOS Rapide™ could be used to manage smart traffic control to restrict speed or divert traffic to improve air quality.
